Honolulu is the #1 Tourist Destination in the World. In 1959, Hawaii was formally admitted to the Union as the 50th state. Located in the middle of the Pacific, Oahu was nicknamed "the Gathering Place" or "the Aloha State" because of its diverse mix-plate culture; considered to be top ten most expensive cities.
Honolulu is very multicultural, with influences from Hawaiian, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Western cultures. While Hawaii is often viewed as paradise, the islands face real-world challenges including traffic congestion, homelessness, drug abuse, and environmental concerns.
People are leaving Hawaii primarily due to the high cost of living, including expensive housing, and limited economic opportunities on the island. There are fewer high-paying jobs available compared to the mainland.
Other significant factors include the need to be closer to family on the mainland, and in some cases, the feeling of being limited by island life, geographical isolation, and a desire for different lifestyles.

Honolulu is small and isolated. After you've done the beaches, hikes, malls, and food spots, there's not much to rotate in.
When rent, gas, food, and parking eat up your money, you end up staying home more. Boredom grows fast, when fun feels expensive.
On the mainland, you can drive somewhere totally different for a weekend. In Honolulu, you're stuck on the same island unless you pay for a flight. |
